Choosing Health | Personal Post | A Revelation.

November 7, 2014

This is kind of one of those (potentially) cheesy healthy/workout posts, but I’m hoping our current situation inspires even one person to begin to choose health. Yes, health.

What happened to us was this. Wedding season is crazy. I’ve said it a million times, but we work 80+ hours/week, editing, answering emails, shooting, + a million other behind-the-scenes things that come along with running a business!! That being said, we found ourselves in this place where all we did was work. That means, what felt like no time to cook healthy meals (convenience comes in … ahem, frozen pizzas) + definitely not working out. Although we were busy, it really isn’t an excuse to not be healthy. We could have still chosen to make healthy decisions when eating (healthy eating does NOT necessarily equal hours in the kitchen) + let’s be honest, taking 20 minutes out of the day to do some form of conscious exercise was not going to kill the business. It’s a mental game, for sure, + we were making excuses.

Then, at Bible Study a couple of weeks ago, we read the verse 1 Corinthians 6:19, just in passing, but it really stuck out to me. The verse reads, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” Okay, WOAH. We are not honoring God with our bodies!!! We are not taking care of them but rather indulging in whatever we please + simply,  being lazy, physically! (This might sound a little extreme, I guess, but I mean, it’s kind of true!!!) We have not been taking care of them as if they were something special or something of value. We weren’t really thinking of them in that way, at all. Or even thinking about our bodies, or health, at all, for that matter!

But then we had the realization that this lifestyle is not okay. For us, it’s not honoring to God. But religion + beliefs aside, it’s not just about honoring God. As we run through the woods (our workout of choice because of Vivian!), I often think about how tired I feel … + how I just want to stop. But then I think about something so simple, but really, revolutionary for me. You CAN run. You are healthy enough to run … with two legs that work, + lungs that work … you get the idea. There are so many people who would give anything to be able to run .. walk .. exercise. Be thankful. And do it for them. To honor them.

So it hasn’t been that long, but in the beginning of November we decided to start choosing health. To take care of our bodies, because we really are blessed to have them!! It doesn’t have to be a HUGE, daunting, unrealistic change … but how, starting today, can you make small changes to choose health in your own life?? xo, M

We use the Nike+ Running App on our phones during our runs because it tracks our miles, pace, AND plays music!
