Heirloom Jewelry | For Brides Series | A Bridesmaid Gift Idea.

July 7, 2015

One of the many, many details to think about as you are planning your wedding is the gifts for your bridal party! The people in your life who you love so much + who will be standing beside you on such a monumental day—you want to gift them with something that means something to both you + them! Something that will show your appreciation for all of their support, help with planning, + time given to all the things that go into a wedding day : )

When we were planning our wedding, I knew that I wanted to gift my bridesmaids with something that was unique + most importantly, something that actually meant something special to them! I wish I could say that I thought up this idea on my own, but I actually got it from a friend of mine who did it for her bridesmaids on her wedding day!! I’m calling it: heirloom jewelry : )

About 6 months prior to our wedding day, I contacted either the moms or sisters of all of my bridesmaids + told them that I was collecting jewelry for each of the girls to be made into a special, custom-made piece of jewelry for them as their bridesmaid gift. The catch was that I wanted to have jewelry from each of the girl’s mothers + grandmothers!! Specific jewelry : ) Thankfully, everyone was totally on board + helped me to get earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces, etc. from each of my bridesmaids mothers + grandmothers. I then gave these pieces to the jeweler who I worked with on this project; she took them + turned them into a custom jewelry piece for each girl. Three of my bridesmaids ended up with bracelets + two of them with necklaces : )

The best, BEST part of the whole experience was watching the girls open their custom bracelet or necklace at the rehearsal dinner + then learning about HOW each piece was made. Several of my bridesmaids had jewelry incorporated from deceased grandmothers + one of them from her mom who had passed away when she was younger—so it was just SO SPECIAL to have their own “new” jewelry piece made from heirlooms of the special women in their life.

My ONLY regret from this whole experience is that I never took pictures of the girl’s pieces before I gave them to them!!!! Ahhhh, how could I forget that, right?! But even though there are no pictures, I still wanted to share this idea with bride-to-be’s because I LOVED it SO much for my own wedding/bridesmaids!!! If you end up doing this for your girls, let me know! I want to hear how it went + see YOUR pics! Hehe : )

That is such a neat idea!! I love it!

  2. Jamie Green says:

How clever! Just put of curiosity, what did the necklaces and bracelets start as?

    • Jamie Green says:

      *out, not put 🙂

      • Maison Engel says:

Of course you can 🙂 🙂 Mostly earrings + rings from the mom’s + grandma’s that the jeweler brought together using her own pearls or beads that she had!! For one bridesmaids, she used a part of her grandmother’s necklace in the "new" necklace she created for her 🙂
