If you want to get an idea of what Caleb + I are like as a couple, you should probably get to know the two lovebirds on the blog today. We share SO MANY similarities with these two + our friendship is one that, we believe, is a divine intervention : ) A couple who just “gets us” in so many ways + shares so many of the same beliefs, passions, + a love for dogs : ) hehe!! I am just really, really excited to introduce them to you today!!
Caleb + I first met Kalli because she is a local wedding photographer + we had crossed paths because of industry things, etc. We immediately fell in love with her because she is SO kind, so much fun, + always, always joyful. Definitely a breath of fresh air to be around!! Kalli was always talking about her handsome hubby, Ben, + we knew we just needed to meet him! Luckily, these two booked an Anniversary Session with us to celebrate two years of marriage, so meeting Ben was finally going to happen!! A few weeks before their shoot, however, we were downtown getting ready for a session + saw these two holding hands + being all flirty-adorable across the street from us!! We ran over to them + learned that they were taking time off (Kalli has a crazy-busy summer/fall season like us), + being intentional about spending time together, no work — just them. LOVE THAT : ) We got to meet Ben + we all just connected right away!!
Their anniversary session last weekend was a blast, as we knew it would be, + Caleb + I got to meet the final member of their family, rescue pup Perry : ) We had the most gorgeous fall evening (it was SO warm!!!) + laughed the night away. What a treat : ) I remember leaving their session just feeling SO filled UP. Up to the top. With joy, with thankfulness, with a refreshing, firsthand reminder of how beautiful marriage is, + gosh, how amazing it is to document <3
1. Where do you two live + what is one of your favorite things about your city?
Ben & I currently live on the east side of Madison but are so excited to be buying our first home in the next few months! We moved to Madison when we got married + absolutely love everything this city has to offer. Our favorite things to do include kayaking on Lake Wingra, hiking with our sweet dog, + exploring local restaurants + breweries.
2. How did you two meet + how long have you been married?
Ben had recently graduated from UW-Platteville + was working in Waukesha during my senior year at Carroll University. I happened to be out celebrating my birthday when a mutual friend introduced us + we spent the rest of the night talking. At the time, I wasn’t looking for a relationship but Ben says he knew within a few weeks that we were meant to be together.
We only dated for a year + a half before we got engaged, six months later we were married, + now we are starting our third year of marriage!!! It’s crazy to think we’ve only been in each other’s lives for roughly four years because we can’t seem to remember a life before each other.
3. Ben, what is one of your favorite things about Kalli? Kalli, what is what of your favorite things about Ben?
Ben: One of my favorite things about Kal is her ability to always see good in others. She always has a positive outlook on life no matter what, which is contagious to those around her. The world would be a much better place if people had half of the compassion + positive outlook as she does.
Kalli: It’s impossible to choose just one attribute but I think this summarizes it best – Ben never had the chance to meet my Dad before he passed away but there isn’t a shred of doubt in my mind that my father would have loved every single thing about Ben, just as much as I do. I could write pages upon pages about how much I admire this man but the fact that the other most important man in my life would have adored him too? That is more powerful than anything I could ever write.
4. What has been a challenge of marriage that you weren’t necessarily expecting? How do you battle that challenge?
From May until November I work an average of 80 hours a week, which means we don’t see each other very much. Ben takes on the responsibilities at home (walking the dog, cooking, laundry, cleaning, etc.) while I work late into the night. I am so thankful that he helps without complaint but sometimes we both feel more like “roommates” than husband + wife. It’s been really hard to feel so distant from each other but we try to combat that separation with date nights or making plans that we can look forward to over the winter months.
5. What is one of your favorite things about marriage? What do you love about it?!
We love everyday life together – it’s the little things that make us the happiest. Holding hands, snuggling on the couch, simply being married to your best friend!!! It’s incredible being married to someone who knows you better than you know yourself!
I LOVE these!!! So, so, SO much!!!
The glow!!! SO beautiful you guys!! <3
This is their baby, Perry!!
