It feels like we have been waiting for this wedding to happen FOREVER … and if WE feel like that, as photographers(!), I can only imagine how long Nick + Julia have been waiting ; ) This incredible couple married this past weekend in Holland, Michigan, where Julia grew up + has so many special memories. I can completely relate to this girl’s adoration for the water + the feeling it gives her of being “home”. There was no question that by the lake is where these two would commit their lives to one another … forever.
It was a BEAUTIFUL day full of gorgeous blooms, exquisite signage (Julia’s cousin actually made ALL of their invitations + any signage you will see at the wedding — she is amazing!), navy + white stripes, an ornate cathedral veil, lovely bridesmaids, almost-as-lovely groomsmen ; ) … just SO many spectacular things that Julia has been planning for her day for years + years + years. And I KNOW this is going to be cheesy + has been said before by others before me, but when I think back to Nick + Julia’s day, all of those pretty details aren’t what first come to my mind. Not even close.
What comes to my mind is the way Julia wept when she saw her mom for the first time in her stunning navy mother-of-the-bride dress. Or the way Julia’s bridesmaids wept when Julia put on her dress, stuck her hands in the pockets, + turned to show off the bow on the back, looking at herself in the mirror for the very first time. What I remember, SO clearly, is the way Nick + Julia could not stop stealing glances at one another during the ceremony … and the WAY they looked so lovingly at each other — each time synced with a squeeze of the other’s hand. Or the way Julia talked about the ceremony being such a transcendent, spiritual experience … or the speeches at the reception that were equally hilarious as they were powerful + moving.
It was an unforgettable day for two friends that we love so much. For two people who are LOVED by SO many. Their impact + influence in the spheres they are a part of is extremely great + extremely significant. What a legacy they are going to leave : ) Nick + Julia — we love you! And we are SO thankful for the many ways you have + continue to love us. Enjoy these snapshots into the greatest day in the lives of two really, really great people : ) Enjoy!
