Remember When is a story-telling series that shares a “favorite memory” of each married couple featured in its pages. As humans, we believe that we desire connection, relating to others, hearing their stories, being encouraged, + celebrating the small moments in life that are simple, positive, + joyful.
So, Paul and Heidi, what is your favorite memory together?
When asked to share a favorite memory of our marriage, our minds raced from one memory to another. How could we decide? From trips, to special events — like the birth of our children — to difficult times that have drawn us closer, to the hilarious + fun times together? This month, we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary! We realized that we couldn’t pick a favorite memory or choose one over the other. As we’ve been celebrating our anniversary, we realize how much has filled these 25 years, + we began to see that it’s the simple things that binds us together.
As it began early on in our marriage, when money was tight, we made grocery shopping our date night. There is much fun, creativity + teamwork when a task becomes a special time together. It helped us to develop an appreciation + value of each other. Over the years, the grocery shopping is still enjoyed together, along with trips to Menards, gas stations, + various errands. When one of us has an evening errand to run, we enjoy the car ride together, the sights we see + the time to reflect on each other’s day. It’s those small things that has developed us into the “help-mate” + companions we are today.
It’s been 25 years + still loving every moment together!
