Thanksgiving 2017 | A Thankful, Thanksgiving Twist.

November 27, 2017

This year, as I was planning to write our annual Thanksgiving blog post, I was trying to think of something I could do that would be a bit more unique (or at least something a little different that the norm!). There is absolutely nothing wrong with writing out the things you are thankful for — I actually think this is crucial, perspective-changing life practice! — but this year I just had the itch to do something new.

But …. I couldn’t think of anything new to do, so I asked Caleb if he had any ideas (leave it to Caleb for all the good ideas — seriously!!!!!). We went up to Minneapolis for Thanksgiving this year to spend time with his family and he told me that I should take a photo of everyone and ask them to share with me what they are thankful for. These things together could be the blog post. Okay, YES : ) I looooooooved this idea so much and I’m SO excited to share this post with you today!!

I’m really excited for you to meet Caleb’s family a bit more in-depth and I hope the things they are thankful for can remind us of all the things we, too, have to be thankful for in our own lives! One of the things I admire most about Caleb’s family is the relationships they have with one another. They are truly such a close-knit family and it is something that I love so much. Everyone is valued, accepted, encouraged, and loved on … hard : ) They laugh, they stay up late talking, they play games, they have heated/passion-filled conversations … and then laugh again. They are truly a community of such great love and support and I feel so thankful to have them as my own family now, too : )

Grandma Shirley

I’m thankful for the love that surrounds me — God, family, friends, and pets. The wonders of nature — moon and stars, sun, sunrises and sunsets, snow and rain, trees, flowers, birds, even squirrels and chipmunks that dig up my yard. My vision to enjoy all of the above and read books. My health and that I can walk and get up from the floor. The way we can travel and communicate. Cars that run, warm houses. My country, no matter how screwed up, that I love and pray for. And the list just goes on …

Uncle Neil

I am thankful to have people I can depend on.

Aunt Katy

When Maison asked us to write what we were thankful for, I thought I’d use a generic one sentence answer, but then I thought I would share how lucky and thankful I am. I am thankful for my wonderful family. As we gathered for Thanksgiving this year, I was reminded how blessed I am. I am thankful for Abigail and Isabelle, my daughters, who are continuing to grow into independent, strong, funny, beautiful (both inside and out) young women. They amaze me in so many ways. I am thankful for my husband who challenges me to get out of my comfort zone and who I enjoy just being with. I am thankful for my dog Lucy, who always loves us and is happy to be with us. I am thankful for my mom, who still gives me so much love, friendship and support by listening and supporting me as only a mom can do. I am thankful for my brother and his family. I am truly blessed that they are in my life. Tori who comes to just hang out with me and give me a hug and chat about life. James, who though is too far away, still just makes me laugh when we are together. Caleb and Maison, who are an inspiration to me in their marriage and faith and such a joy to be with. I am thankful for my friends who listen and support me. And finally I’m thankful for all the little kids in my life who give me love and hugs.

Abigail

I am thankful for the ability to travel and learn about new cultures. I am also thankful for my friends and family.

Isabelle

I am thankful for education.

Steve (Dad)

I’m thankful for a family that enjoys each other’s company.

Andrea

I’m thankful for SO many things; it’s hard to choose just one. Today I am thankful for a husband who supports my highest expression of self and who loves his family the same way.

James

I’m thankful for the love and happiness that can be felt every time the family gets together.

Tori

I am thankful to have the kind of family that has made me excited for Holidays and family time. Where there is so much love and laughs with all good feelings and acceptance. I am thankful for friends who have supported my dreams, celebrated with me in my happy moments and carried me through my sad. I am thankful to have a job where I am inspired every day by my coworkers’ kindness and my children’s resiliency. I am so thankful to have a life full of great people who show me everyday what love is and that connection to others is the most important thing we have. And dogs : )

Caleb

I’m thankful for a family that is hard to leave, a dog that is always eager to be outside, a wife who is truly my better half, and a God who fulfill His promises. This year I’ve been focused on simplifying distractions so that I can be fully present with the people I care most about. In this pursuit I’ve been blessed to discover everything I’ve taken for granted. Those wonderfully amazing and free gifts that are all around us if we take the time to appreciate people over things. I’m SO thankful for the people in my life. From my smokin’ hot wife to my co-workers. From the worlds greatest dad to our worship leader at church. Big and small you’ve had a profound impact on my life.

Maison

It (feels) totally impossible to list everything I am truly thankful for as there is SO much!!! I am thankful for Jesus and am thankful to know Him, above all else. I am thankful for His grace, unending forgiveness, and unconditional love that teach me how to show the same to others even in the most difficult of circumstances. Next to this, I am most thankful for my marriage and my husband — both give me opportunities to grow as a person every single day. I am thankful for the support that my parents have always shown me and the many, many things they have provided me. I am thankful for the friendship of my sister. I am thankful for the additional friendships and relationships with other family members that I have and cherish so deeply. I am thankful for Vivian. For our clients and supporters who literally make our dream possible. For SUNSHINE and flowers and lakes. For hard times and experiences because from them come opportunity for transformation. Okay, I have to stop but there is a LOT more!!!!
