Marriage | Monday Musings | What it Means to Me.

May 19, 2014

Today’s musing settles on a very big + often daunting topic–marriage. And yet, here I find myself, approaching marriage with great passion + swiftness; and the approach is two-fold.

The first angle is obvious–I am getting married. In 96 days to be exact (yes, we are down to double digits!!). The second way in which I frequently engage in marriage is also obvious: I AM a WEDDING photographer. My amazing job is photographing couples on the day in which they commit to marriage for the rest of their lives!! With the obvious now being stated, I figured it was time I shared my musings on WHY MARRIAGE. Why I believe in it. Why I am dedicating my life to it. Though I currently have no experience in actually being married, I hope you will take my words with utmost sincerity : )

So … WHY am I marrying Caleb? Because I love him? Of course! Because I think he’s hot stuff? That too : ) But more importantly, I am marrying him because I believe God has called us to this lifetime covenant + our marriage will be used by God to glorify Himself + paint a picture of the unmatchable message of the Gospel to those whom we encounter. I am marrying Caleb as a promise to Him that through Christ, I will never leave him or forsake him. NEVER. I will be his wife, his best friend + his teammate for as long as I am alive. Through the power of the Holy Spirit in me. I am also marrying Caleb so that I can give myself completely to him–emotionally, physically + spiritually. To encourage + affirm the man that God has made him to be, to fall towards him when conflict arises + I really want to fall away, to challenge + push Him towards Christ–as iron sharpens iron–and to communicate honestly + often with him about everything that is going on in our lives.

In these past several months, we have just been praying SO MUCH that God would prepare us for the marriage that HE has in store for US. And that He would use our marriage to draw us closer to Himself + to reveal Himself to those around us. That our marriage would be RADICALLY different + set-apart from this world–forever growing in JOY + intimacy. Forever. That we would never stop pursuing + dating one another : ) And that we wouldn’t settle for a marriage that is less than what God intends for our lives. Cheers to that!! : )

So we are obviously excited about marriage itself + passionate about marriages that are GROWING, authentic, committed to one another + committed to FOREVER–the good, the bad, the mundane. Committed to falling towards one another + rising above mediocre standards. Marriages that are willing to fight for their love, fight for intimacy, seek new adventures + live selflessly. While we may not have a TON to bring to the table experience-wise at this point, it is our DREAM to personally share in the joys + struggles of marriage with our couples. And to photograph them with the intention that their photos would forever remind them of WHY they chose to marry one another in the first place!! To reignite that sweet love + passion by entering back into the emotions + moments captured on camera. REAL emotions + moments that happened. We want to share love stories, inspire others, + be authentic ourselves.

What a journey we have found ourselves on!! We couldn’t be more grateful or EXCITED : ) We are far better together than apart. Have an absolutely lovely Monday, M <3
