Sharing our life + story with you is something that is so important to us! Not every day is glamorous in the life of a husband + wife wedding photography team … and in fact, most aren’t! MOST are spent at home … editing, emails … sitting at the computer! With so much time spent at home, Caleb + I need to do things to keep ourselves sane + motivated throughout any given day!! One of our favorite parts of the day is our mornings together (minus the actual getting up part … that part is the WORST!!!) ; )
We like to have “slow” mornings around the Engel household — this time is crucial for the pace + productivity of the reminder of our day! Obviously, not EVERY morning looks like this because sometimes we have things going on right away in the morning, but it’s definitely safe to say that the majority of our mornings consist of “slowness + smoothies” : )
After getting out of bed (usually about 30 minutes after our alarm goes off — Vivian LOVES to cuddle …. only in the mornings though … so we have to take advantage of it!), we head to the kitchen + Caleb makes us our morning smoothie. We both love smoothies for breakfast, but the REAL reason we have them everyday is because we put a scoop of vegetable powder in each smoothie we make … and this scoop gives us & SERVINGS of our required vegetables for the day!! For two people who don’t necessarily love vegetables, this is crucial for our health! ; )
The rest of our “slow morning” is spent in personal/quiet time, where we each read and/or journal to start our day before getting to work. THIS part of our day is TRULY crucial for our health! For us, this time gives us the opportunity to connect with each other + God before we are thinking about anything else. I really can tell a different in my thoughts, perspectives, + mood when I have this quiet time in the morning vs. when I don’t.
No matter who you are, taking a couple of minutes in the morning to quiet yourself + slow down — maybe spending time trying to cultivate an attitude of gratitude, or speak positive words to yourself — can really change the course of your day! I truly believe that! It only has to be maybe five minutes (or it can be 30! you choose!). For us, this is an integral part of A Day In Our Life + we wouldn’t have it any other way : )
