When we first started dating, Caleb and I were living in different cities because I was still in college and he was done with school. He was living in northern Wisconsin and I was still here in Madison. We were two and a half hours apart and because of this, in-person dates were few and far between … and always extra special when they did happen : ) I will also admit that they were usually a result of Caleb coming to Madison because his love language is acts of service and he would always come to visit me!! I am very thankful for that.
On one of his trips to Madison, he was actually in town that weekend to take the DAT exam as he was applying for dental school (so crazy-beautiful how God had such a different — and in my opinion, better ; ) — plan for him! hehe!). He was super nervous that weekend and I remember doing everything I could to pamper him, encourage him, and prepare him for the big exam (I even learned how to make eggs benedict because he LOVES that for breakfast and I don’t even cook for goodness sake! Now that’s love ; ))!
We had a great weekend together and said “goodbye” on Sunday morning before I had to go into work. Little did I know, Caleb would spend the next several hours still in Madison, visiting antique shops to find me the perfect bracelet as an unexpected gift. He also went to a local record store where he bought me a Ben Howard CD. When I got home from work later that afternoon, I found these two things sitting on the table next to my bed with the sweetest handwritten note : )
I had never heard of Ben Howard before but, of course, started listening to the CD immediately. I fell in love with the vibe of his music and his lyrics … and I especially loved one particular song, “Only Love.”
Turns out Caleb had mutual feelings about the song and we never would have guessed then that a couple of years later, we would be dancing to it for the first time as husband and wife : )
