Today’s post is very different than what we normally share on the blog … in the BEST way possible. I am so thrilled and honored that I get to share this session with you. It is beautiful, inspiring, and hopefully eye-opening.
Several months ago, a friend of mine reached out to me. She is a doctor of nursing practice and in addition to her work for Public Health Madison & Dane County, she works for an incredible community health program called Nurse Family Partnership (NFP).
What is Nurse Family Partnership?
From their website (LOTS more info there, as well an opportunity to give to this amazing non-profit) says:
“Nurse-Family Partnership empowers first-time moms to transform their lives and create better futures for themselves and their babies.
Nurse-Family Partnership works by having specially trained nurses regularly visit young, first-time moms-to-be, starting early in the pregnancy, and continuing through the child’s second birthday.
The expectant moms benefit by getting the care and support they need to have a healthy pregnancy. At the same time, new mothers develop a close relationship with a nurse who becomes a trusted resource they can rely on for advice on everything from safely caring for their child to taking steps to provide a stable, secure future for them both. Through the partnership, the nurse provides new moms with the confidence and the tools they need not only to assure a healthy start for their babies, but to envision a life of stability and opportunities for success for both mom and child.”
The Story
The national office for Nurse Family Partnership was writing a story on one of the families that Sarah works with and they were hoping to capture some photos of the family as well as Sarah with the family. We met a few weeks later at a local library to hang out and snap some memories of everyone together.
Thank you Sarah, Darian, Salinta and Armonie for such an amazing day and for allowing me to capture your story and your relationships with one another. I am honored to share it and shout it from the rooftops. You have inspired me beyond words and I have NO doubt you will do the same for everyone who continues to encounter your story.
SO much love to you : ) xo, Maison
