Madison Rising Tide Society | 2018 Summer Social.

June 27, 2018

Many of you know that Caleb and I help lead a group for creative entrepreneurs here in Madison called The Rising Tide Society. For those of you who don’t know this, the Rising Tide Society is part of a worldwide movement of creative entrepreneurs who meet on the second Tuesday of every month in the spirit of “Community Over Competition”; these meetings are called Tuesdays Together.

What is Rising Tide Society?

To sum it up as briefly as possible, the Rising Tide Society was started three years by two business owners on the east coast who were starting to feel lonely and isolated on their journeys of creative entrepreneurship … you know, working alone at home all day with the possibility of never having to leave your house or talk to another soul face-to-face! The thought it could be beneficial to meet for coffee with other creatives once per month simply to connect with other like-minded individuals.

Their first few monthly coffee meetings were such a success amongst the creative entrepreneurs in their local community that they wondered if others elsewhere (like across the country and even globe!) were experiencing the same feelings of isolation.

Another piece to their heart was the discovery that even in the same industry, we don’t have to view one another as competitors but rather can believe that there is enough to go around and that community trumps competition; that together we can raise the bar in our respective industries. As JFK once famously said, “A rising tide lifts all boats.” Hence the name Rising Tide Society was born!

These two entrepreneurs decided to start a social media movement using the hashtag #comunityovercompetition encouraging other creatives to meet together in this spirit of community and growth once per month. Long story short, the idea spread like wildfire and eventually an official movement was established. When Caleb and I were first introduced to The Rising Tide Society and its ideals, we knew we wanted to lead a local chapter here in Madison.

What is Tuesdays Together?

Tuesdays Together is the name of the monthly gathering for all creative entrepreneurs who are a part of the Rising Tide Society.

How do you become a part of the Rising Tide Society? You ask yourself if you:

  1. Wholeheartedly believe in community over competition
  2. Need like-minded community in your journey as a creative business owner
  3. If the answer to the above two is “yes!” — find a your local chapter and join! Everything is free : )

Basically what I’m trying to say is it’s super easy to join! We meet monthly to socialize, connect with one another (get to know the people behind the business!) and then grow our businesses together around an educational topic. Every month, around the world, all groups are meeting and discussing a specific business topic like marketing, SEO, social media, inquiry nurturing, etc.

The Summer Social

In our local chapter specifically, Caleb and I try to have two gatherings per year that are strictly social! A time to truly leave business at the door and get to know one another as humans — siblings, spouses, parents, friends, etc. — aside from just as business owners : )

Last month, we had our 2018 Summer Social at White Oak Savanna in Dodgeville just outside of Madison. It was an AMAZING evening and I just wanted to share some pictures from the event!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out and the biggest thank you to all to the INCREDIBLE vendors who donated their space, time, talents, and resources to make this event possible!
