Last winter, as we were adjusting to life with our growing family and continuing to run our business, Caleb and I found ourselves having some really big and important conversations. Namely, we were trying to figure out what it looked like to serve both our clients AND our family with the energy, passion, and dedication each one deserves.

One of the main questions we wanted to answer was — do I continue photographing families? As much as I loved this (small but mighty) piece of our business, family photo season and wedding photo season are simultaneous when you live in the frozen tundra, and it was becoming difficult to find the space to do both. Without going into the nitty gritty details, we decided that we wanted to try to continue both, and we made some significant changes to our family session offerings.

I AM SO GLAD WE MADE THIS DECISION!

I wasn’t ready to give up photographing families and 2023 was confirmation of this without a shadow of a doubt. I’ve publicly shared this many times already, but becoming a parent has fundamentally changed me, and also made me better at what I do. Family sessions are no exception, in fact, the change may shine brightest here : )

I understand, with every fiber in my being, how important it is to preserve the fleeting moments that parenthood brings us. With the click of my shutter, I am able to “say” — this moment, it will not be forgotten. The size of those little toes in dad’s hand, the drooly laughter, the chubby cheeks with dimples, the freedom and tenderness of a child’s spirit. I am “at home” during these sessions and feel so thankful for the opportunity to give each family photos that I know they will treasure for the rest of their lives.
