Twelve years ago, I started this beautiful business of mine because I wanted to photograph weddings.
But first, let me backup a little bit. Becoming a photographer was not at all in my plan. My plan was to live internationally, working for some sort of justice-based nonprofit. However, studying abroad in college led me to documenting my various travels and then posting photos online. This led to a friend reaching out and asking if I would take some engagement photos because she thought I had a “gift for photography.” After much convincing, this led to an actual engagement session, which led to a realization that documenting people was something I might actually be good at, and interested in? That single session led to more inquiries, and more sessions, and, well — the rest is history. It completely changed my life, and I am forever grateful!
In the beginning of my career, I took pictures of anyone, and anything! But I quickly realized that documenting marriage was something I felt very drawn to. So … I started a business photographing weddings : )
As time has gone on, twelve years have now passed, and life has changed quite a bit (!), I recently shared in this post that something new has been stirring deep in my heart. That it has become something I can no longer ignore, and it is time for me to follow my heart, to metamorphosize, and to make a shift. I am really excited about this new chapter for the business and yet, documenting marriage is something I will always, always feel drawn to.
I am so thankful for my own marriage, and I truly believe that the marriage relationship has the potential to be one of the deepest and most powerful human experiences. Something I have been really leaning into recently is the idea of “celebrating the successes,” big or small, that we experience in life. And I think celebrating marriage is certainly one of the most worthy! I will always offer Anniversary Sessions as a way for couples to tangibly celebrate this profound commitment, and all that comes along with it. In fact, Caleb and I recently did an Anniversary Session to document our 10th Anniversary and now some of those photos hang proudly throughout our home! What a beautiful way to show our kids that our marriage matters, that we love each other, and that from this place we parent the two of them.
Anyway, I’m excited to share a few of my favorite photos from a recent anniversary session I did for Garrett & Ashley to celebrate 17 YEARS of marriage! If you can’t tell by the photos, these two still have a lot of fun together and I am so thankful, and honored, that they gave me the opportunity to help preserve this piece of their story <3

To applaud their commitment, couples receive 1% off their anniversary session for every year of marriage. Please email me at maison@maisonmeredith.com for more information : )
