Ben & Maggie’s Lake Geneva wedding celebration closed out our 2023 season and I truly could not think of a better couple or day to end this year on. All week long, everyone involved in this day was watching the weather religiously. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday all had a nearly 100% chance of rain which is never “ideal” for a wedding day but especially not if you are planning an outdoor event. Ben, Maggie, and their families embraced the forecast with grace and flexibility, clearly focused on what mattered most after all — that nothing would steal the JOY they felt about Ben & Maggie becoming husband and wife!
And truthfully? I’m not sure I’ve seen a happier bride on her wedding day : ) Maggie was RADIANT all day long and could not stop smiling. Her joy was contagious and the energy in every room she walked into was FULL of life. You couldn’t look at her and not smile yourself! As you can imagine, she and Ben are surrounded on all sides by just as kind, caring, and spirited human beings as they are : ) Needless to say, we had SO MUCH FUN with them and as we drove away from their reception at the end of the night, both Caleb and I reflected on how smooth the day was (did I mention the sun even came out?!), how gracious every family member was, and how LUCKY we are to get to work with people who encourage us to be the very best versions of ourselves.
Fitting in every possible way, the “theme” of Ben & Maggie’s day was hygge: a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being. The couple invited all (300 of!) their guests to Maggie’s family’s lake house in Lake Geneva to celebrate their marriage. I’m not sure it gets more hygge than opening your home to others with generous, welcoming arms. Guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the home and on the deck overlooking the lake, with a tented dinner reception to follow in the back lawn. The tent was breathtaking, with a gigantic shoutout to Frontier Flowers of Fontana and Simply Detailed for bringing the couples’ vision to life.
Right before heading to the ceremony, we took some portraits of Maggie by the windows on the second floor of the house, looking out at the lake. All of a sudden, Maggie started to cry. She shared that she was overcome with emotion, full of gratitude to be in the place she loves MOST in the entire world, on her wedding day. How beautiful it was to witness this couple notice, and name, the love they experienced all throughout the day.
…. please never stop, you two! Your love will move mountains <3
