Kirstie emailed me about doing a Lifestyle Session and in her email, shared how much she and her husband were loving this season of life with their first baby. Knowing how fleeting time is — especially that first year of life, I swear! — a Lifestyle Session seemed like the perfect fit to help them preserve the very sacred memories of life at home in such a significant season of their family’s story.
We planned for me to arrive while baby ‘E’ was still sleeping so that I could document mom and dad waking him up from his nap. He was very curious about who I was but quickly warmed up to my presence in the home. Always nearby, big (pup) sister Phoebe kept a close eye on me as well, making sure brother was well cared for, safe, and having fun : )
Post-nap time was filled with snuggles, an outfit change, and playtime on the floor! Baby ‘E’ was crawling all over and newly pulling-up on furniture, all of which we practiced (and documented!). He was very proud of himself and I love the photos that capture this specific smile : ) We spent some time outside admiring the trees and feeling the bark on our fingertips before heading back inside for a cup of coffee for mom and dad and a fresh mango snack for baby. His admiration for his parents was undeniable, and theirs for him, and my hope is that these photos would remind all three of them of the strong bond and deep love they shared with one another from day one.
Yes, family photos are a way for mom and dad to remember the wildly fleeting seasons of childhood but, they are also for our children — a way to share with them those very early years and the love we felt, the home we lived in, the experiences we had, and the connection we shared. A gift to us and a gift to them.
